Health and Wellness Coaching

What does a Health and Wellness Coach do? According to the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches,

“Health and Wellness Coaches partner with clients seeking self-directed, lasting changes, aligned with their values, which promote health and wellness and, thereby, enhance well-being. In the course of their work health and wellness coaches display unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their capacity for change, and honoring that each client is an expert on his or her life, while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.”

Basically, I will work with you to identify your health and wellness vision, set long-term and short-term goals to reach that vision and champion you through your everyday life and commitments to get there.

What is not Health and Wellness coaching? I am not providing you with advice on nutrition, fitness or overall health. You will need to work with your nutritionist, personal trainer or doctor for specific guidelines and advice. I will support you to achieve the goals set by your nutritionist, trainer or doctor and ensure that you follow their advice breaking it down to achievable daily, weekly and monthly goals. Providing counseling or therapy sessions will also fall outside my scope of work so I am unable to do that.

Who could benefit from Health and Wellness coaching? Anyone and everyone! In fact, Health and Wellness coaches work with other Health and Wellness coaches themselves to support them with their life goals. The purpose of Health and Wellness coaching is to help you identify how to live your life in the most meaningful way - in a way that makes sense to you and gives you happiness and joy. My specialty is supporting women who live with autoimmune diseases. I was diagnosed with Sjögren's a decade ago so I know how difficult it can be to live with a chronic condition. I went from fearful and fatigued to strong and empowered by changing my diet, exercise, sleep and mindset. Now I want to help other women who live with autoimmune diseases to initiate and maintain lifestyle changes in order to manage overwhelm, regain control and thrive.

How are the meetings conducted? We will hold sessions over the phone.

What will the session look like? Initial session will take an hour and we’ll talk about your long-term wellness vision. We’ll determine your priorities, brainstorm a few options and identify your action plan. We will then set actionable short-term and long-term goals to get you going on your wellness path. In subsequent sessions, we’ll review your activities from previous weeks, celebrate the wins and determine how to work around the obstacles. You will leave each session with a positive can-do attitude and belief in your capability to take the next step. You will also have concrete action items to accomplish your daily/weekly/monthly goals. I will help you develop self-awareness, self-knowledge and personal responsibility to develop a meaningful life.

How often should we meet? I recommend meeting at least once a week in the beginning. Once we’ve worked together for a few months, our coaching sessions can be held on a biweekly basis. There is no set frequency at any time, though, and we can meet as often as it works with your schedule. I recommend meeting at least once a week or biweekly in the beginning of our coaching relationship for better results.
